SAQA Reception
David and I were able to attend the SAQA reception at Long Beach on Friday night. It was a great time. Not only did we get to have wonderful food and wine but we got to reconnect with a lot of people that we hadn't seen since last year.

Several people got up to show what they are currently working on (David included) and they were all wonderful pieces. It is fun to see how much diversity there is in the art quilt world.

After the reception, 10 of us headed off for dinner at Gladstone's and got to know a possible future Textures member, Catherine. She is very nice and that was confirmed when we found out she owns 4 basenji's and is very good friends with the breeder that my sister and I got our dogs from. How cool is that?

I hope to post some pictures later (on someone else's camera) of the blue smurf man we made out of the cotton candy that Carol got us for David and my anniversary. We were all laughing so hard our stomachs hurt.

Off to the show to torture our feet some more.

Long Beach Quilt Show
Hey all! Exciting weekend. This is the start of the Long Beach Quilt Show at the Convention Center. Should be a wonderful show and David and I are looking forward to going and seeing some of the wonderful quilts and of course the vendors! We have our favorites and are looking forward to seeing lots of new things. I don't think we really need any more fabric, but you never know, there could be a yard or two that just screams out "Take me home!". In that case, we will have to do it.

We are also looking forward to seeing lots of friends that we met last year. I imagine we will see Pokey Bolton, Melanie Testa, Jamie Fingal and a host of others. Since I am such a book-aholic I will be scopeing out the vendors looking for new ones to add to my collection. I have my handy IPod loaded with my Book Collector software so I will not be buying anything that I already own! If you have not checked out this software, you should, it is wonderful. They also have it specific for movies, music and more.

I am looking forward to losing weight with all the walking and looking but it is always a great show. If you get the chance and are in the area, you should really check it out. The show runs from Thursday (preview night) July 22nd to Sunday July 25th. If you do come and you see David and I walking around, stop us and say HI.

Busy Weekend
Well it was a long but busy weekend for Trish and I, not that it is unusual to be busy. Trish was busy working on a new piece for the "No Strings Attached" theme which is going to be part of the Textures 4th annual show in October in Temecula, Ca. I finally got some energy back after that big bicycle ride and did some hand stitching on my main piece for the same show. I think this is going to be our best show yet, the artists are stretching themselves into areas they haven't tried before. This year each artist will have two pieces in the show. One piece will be the themed "No Strings Attached" 14 X 14  and the other will be a larger piece which is open to anything our minds can conjure up.

David is Blogging
Today I took time out from the sewing studio to go on a hilly 50 mile bicycle ride. The ride started in  Scripps Ranch in San Diego went west to Rancho Santa Fe came across Del Dios Highway and then finished along Pomerado Road up the wall back into Scripps Ranch at Hoyt Park. This is one of the hilliest rides I have been on and I was extremely tired when I finished. I guess next time I should actually train for the ride, oh well it was still a good time and I did the ride with three of my good friends. Tomorrow it will be back to the sewing studio.

SAQA Exhibit
David has had the great honor to be juried into the SAQA special exhibit "No Place to Call Home". The theme is homelessness and how it exists all around the world. There are a myriad of conditions that result in homelessness: poverty, unemployment, lack of education, drug addiction, abandonment, mental illness, war and civil unrest, along with man-made and natural disasters. This exhibit is taking a look at homelessness in all its implications. The exhibit's curator is Kathleen McCabe.

He was very excited about this exhibit. He was very inspired by the theme and was able to create his piece in just a few weeks as the deadline loomed. David included several unusual elements in creating his piece including, cardboard, a whiskey label, pieces of an old blanket and other ephemera that was found on the streets around the city. He machine quilted the piece and did some hand lettering on the surface. Here is a small detail of his piece called "House of Cardboard":

He received the email just the other day announcing that his quilt was accepted. It was very exciting to find out that one of our friends, Sandra Hankins, was also accepted. We are also members of the Textures Fiber Arts group in the Temecula, California area.

This show will be traveling the country and here are some of the locations where it can be seen. We are hoping to travel to one of the locations to see the full exhibit.

Premiere Location: Mancuso Quilt Festivals
World Quilt Show - New England
    Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza XVII
    Pacific International Quilt Festival XIX
    World Quilt Show - Florida
    Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XXII
The Quilt Fest of New Jersey VII
    Denver National Quilt Festival VI
Additional venue locations to be determined so check back on the SAQA website for updates.

 http://www.fromedge2edge.wordpress.com

This is our Wordpress blog that I don't seem to use very often! Sorry about that. Most of my postings do wind up on the website blog.

I will give a heads up when I do post some new WIP pictures to the WP blog.

More of our works in progress will be posted here as we get more organized. I will be posting pictures of our studio and you will be able to see how two art quilters along with all our machines fit into one sewing area.

This will also be where you can see snippets of what we are working on.
