Everything but the Kitchen Sink

This quilt started life as an experiment in sun printing. I was fascinated with the pods on our bottle tree and wanted to incorporate them into a quilt. To this I added a palm frond and some Heavenly Bamboo berries. I thread sketched the center sun print design with variegated thread before layering the quilt.

I like the starkness that the black and white fabric adds as a contrast to the softer colors. I cut and painted the lace with SetaColor paints and thread sketched leaves on the opposite side. When the stitch-sketched leaves did not pop enough I used Shiva paint sticks to mimic the colors from the lace. I then machine quilted to finish. When I was done I truly did feel as though I had used every technique “but the kitchen sink”.
