Getting Into Shapes
The inspiration for this quilt came from a hammered and textured wall sculpture.
Using fabric I tried to duplicate the textural aspects of the metal. These fabrics included batiks, commercial prints, upholstery and hand dyed fabric.
The spherical shapes were created with Lutadur that was painted with Stewart Gill and Jacquard Lumieres. Paper clay was hand shaped and stamped. These were painted with Stewart Gill.
The open areas were textured with free motion machine quilting. Adding hand embroidery stitches give life and spark to the darker center.
